Some Thoughts on Organizational Culture: Part 5–Our Role
At Pivot Point not only are we interested in the impact of attachment behavior on the ability to introduce change in an organization, we are also interested in the many ways an organization is influenced by its culture. We think there is a profound relationship between the two. For this reason we have already started an exploration of the relationship that exists between organizational culture, its influence on its employee’s behaviors in general, and its influence on attachment behaviors in specific.
Much research has previously been done by many investigators in an effort to bring about changes in an organization’s culture. In general, efforts to introduce significant changes in organizational culture have met with the same low levels of success as encountered in other organizational change initiatives.
Instead of this approach, we have started by exploring better ways to approach an understanding of the explicit and implicit development and nuance of organizational culture. Attachment Theory has given us great insight into the mechanisms that are at the foundation of failed organizational change initiatives. We feel that there is an as yet unrecognized connection between attachment behavior and organizational culture.
